Video Conferencing Etiquette

What you should (and should not) do during a video conference, online meeting, and online deposition, clear and cut. You should try not to shout or have a distracting background, though you may feel like you need to shout, it's likely that your peers can hear you just fine unless they indicate otherwise. Don't talk to people off screen or try to interact with a pet while attending your video call, everyone is happy that you're home, but work should be kept professional. Don't wear distracting clothes or fidget while in a meeting, it can cause unnecessary disruption in the meeting and just make it last longer.

Look Professional In Video Conferences

Some tips on how to look professional while attending your video conference. Sure, most people are sitting around in their pajamas and enjoying having a cat (or two) on their desk, lounged across their keyboard, but when people can see you, you should try to look your best. Dress like it's another day at work and remember that lighting is incredibly important when you're attending a video conference meeting.

Remote Deposition Etiquette

  • Mute yourself when not speaking.
  • Speak clearly and do not shout.
  • Keep your body movements minimal.
  • Do not interrupt other speakers.
  • Maintain eye contact by looking into the camera.
  • Do not carry on side conversations with someone physically near you.
  • Dress appropriately.
  • If the reporter asks you to repeat yourself, please do so in a clear voice.
